Thank you for this post. It helps to know that not all teachers have run out of gas and are on running on fumes by the end of May. Working in a year-round school with teachers who choose to stay dedicated and pace themselves over 12 months, I find the choruses you mention a bit tiresome. What you say makes sense and you have said it well. Just like lawyers, musicians, and sports players, teaching professionals should be able to "step it up" and do the job that needs to be done every day.

At the end of our school year, I was shocked how much everyone slacked off, dress code slacked, behavior slacked, willingness to work slacked..

When I looked around, it was teachers that slacked. I came to the conclusion that we, as educators generally do not know how to "Finish Strong", even worse, most do not know why to keep things going.

Great post, keep ending the year the way you do.

Here's your question: "Why then do teachers step back at the end of the year?"

Here's your answer: "The last month is a mirror to the year, and also a window to their future."

Grim. I know. But I think the sentiment applies to many classrooms and even reaches up into administration.
