		<description>I never hand out rules, syllabus, etc, on the first day of school.  I try not to talk too much rather than take roll, tell a little about the class and then let the kids tell me what they think.  They have to sit and listen to so many teachers on the first day that they are exhausted, especially the after lunch classes, and I don&#039;t want to add to that.  The kids just hear blah, blah, blah.  I can wait a few days, when things settle down and then we go over rules, etc.

This does not go for yearbook class, though.  We hit the road running and actually come back to school before the first day of school.</description>
