The Finland Phenomenon

There has been much written on the education system in Finland. The 60 minute documentary from Tony Wagner named “The Finland Phenomenon: Inside the World’s most Surprising School System” embedded below echoes much of it.  The movie opens with:

“The question that is often times asked when we get visitors from other countries to Finland is ‘Why are Finnish students successful?’  In Finland families value education. They think that it’s important.”

I wonder if the video could have stopped there…

  1. Because no amount of regulation can make people care. And that’s the real problem. If the government wants me to be more successful in the classroom, I need tools that will help me fight apathy–in students and parents.
