I will not let an exam determine my fate…

((Pssst…all you students from Kansas. ┬áStop stalking and leave a comment.))

  1. Why I hate school but love education:

My 12 year old had to write a paper for English, to prepare for the NJASK. She had to follow highly specific rules and match the rubric in order to do well. She is a GOOD writer. Better than most high school students, she writes what she feels, what she knows. I asked the teacher how she did, “she did well, she is such a good writer, but she missed some of the rubric, she didn’t use transition words (then, next etc.).” Makes me sick to my stomach. The exam graders will look at the first paragraph the last paragraph and a few sentences in the middle and determine if my child is proficient in English. That is Bull Crap!
