If I had my class to teach all over again…

If I had my class to teach all over again,
I’d build self-esteem first, and the rules later.
I’d finger-paint more, and point the finger less.
I’d do less correcting and more connecting.
I’d take my eyes off my watch, and watch with my eyes.
I’d have them fill in fewer bubbles, and build more stages.
I’d stop playing serious, and seriously play.
I ‘d show the the stars, instead of giving them stars.
I’d do more hugging and less tugging.
I’d be firm less often, and affirm much more.
I’d talk to them about the their actions, before taking action.
I’d teach less about the love of power,
And more about the power of love.
If I had my class to teach over again,
I would work less on my technique,
and more on my identity and integrity.

In the end my students will become who I am,
not who I want them to be.
